Daporijo Police have made a significant breakthrough by arresting nine individuals involved in the abduction and murder of Sanjay Nath. The case, which began with a Zero FIR received from Silapather Police Station in Assam on 01/09/2024, detailed the kidnapping of Sanjay Nath near the Subansiri Bridge by 4-5 individuals. The FIR, lodged by Sanjay’s father, pointed to Tabu Doni as the prime suspect.
Investigation and Recovery of the Body
A special police team led by DSP Gamli Loyi, Inspector Jawpha Wangsa, and OC PS Daporijo, among other officers, was constituted immediately after the case was registered. The team carried out extensive searches in and around Daporijo. On 02/09/2024, through relentless investigative efforts, police received a critical lead indicating the location of Sanjay Nath’s body.
The body was discovered buried approximately 7 km from Daporijo, near the riverbank of Subansiri en route to Taliha. The police, accompanied by Magistrate Goken Koyu, exhumed the body and transferred it to the district hospital for identification and a post-mortem examination (PME). Upon identification, additional charges under sections 103(1)/238 of the BNS were added to the case.
Arrests and Motive:
The investigation revealed that Sanjay Nath owed Rs 2.3 lakh to Tabu Doni and had been evading repayment. Upon learning of Sanjay’s arrival in Daporijo on 22/08/2024, four individuals – Yachak Rai, Tarsis Bagh, Anand Rao, and Kamki Lusi – abducted Sanjay from the Subansiri Bridge in a Bolero vehicle (AR 01 S1272) while leaving behind his companion, Arun Chetry.
Sanjay was taken to Tabu Doni’s house in Pakam Colony, Daporijo, where he was beaten. Following this, the abductors left the house. Later, Doni, along with Jeke Marbom, Arjun Ramsyari, and Tai Lamdik, sought out Arun Chetry but could not locate him. Fearing consequences, they took Sanjay to Tai Lamdik’s house in Kuporijo.
However, outside Lamdik’s house, Sanjay was beaten again. Realizing that Sanjay was unresponsive, the group panicked and transported him to the district hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. They then moved his body back to Kuporijo before eventually burying it at the Subansiri riverbank.
