Darak, West Siang District, October 13, 2024: The third edition of the Eco Tourism cum Angling Festival took place in Darak, West Siang District, on October 12–13, 2024, promoting environmental conservation, rural tourism, and sustainable angling practices. Sponsored by Shri Pesi Jilen, MLA of the 27 Liromoba Assembly Constituency, the festival was organized by the Lodu Ao Welfare Society in collaboration with the Young Mission Adventure Club.A Call for Climate Action and Ecological BalanceIn his address as Chief Guest, Shri Pesi Jilen emphasized the need to protect the environment amid growing climate change concerns. He urged the public to adopt eco-friendly practices and to avoid harmful fishing methods, such as using explosives or untraditional fishing techniques, to preserve aquatic life and ensure that Darak’s pristine waters remain attractive to anglers worldwide.“With climate change affecting every corner of the globe, it’s imperative we take collective action to maintain ecological balance. By conserving our natural resources, we’re not only protecting our environment but also paving the way for sustainable tourism that can support local livelihoods,” said Shri Jilen.Highlights of the Festival the Eco Tourism cum Angling Festival 3.0 featured a variety of activities designed to engage participants in eco-friendly practices and showcase local culture. Visitors enjoyed angling competitions, eco-awareness workshops, and cultural performances. The event also offered traditional culinary experiences, giving tourists a taste of the rich cultural heritage of West Siang.This year, the festival saw an increase in participation, with over 300 anglers and eco-tourists from across India and abroad. The Deputy Commissioner of West Siang, Miss Mamu Hage (IAS), joined as Guest of Honour and commended the event for its positive impact on both local tourism and environmental awareness.Commitment to Sustainable Tourism shri Romjir Raksap, General Secretary of the Lodu Ao Welfare Society and Organizing Secretary of the festival, stated that the festival adopted a strict no-plastic policy, encouraging biodegradable alternatives and responsible waste management. “This initiative not only boosts tourism but also reinforces the importance of preserving our environment for future generations,” he added.In his closing remarks, MLA Pesi Jilen thanked the participants, organizers, and government officials, reiterating his commitment to making the festival an annual event on the state tourism calendar. “We hope to make this festival internationally recognized, drawing eco-tourists and anglers from around the globe and promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a hub for sustainable tourism,” he concluded.A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow with its growing popularity and impact, the Eco Tourism cum Angling Festival 3.0 is poised to become a leading example of sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship in Arunachal Pradesh.
