Naharlagun, October 13 — In a significant effort to promote internal unity and resolve recent misunderstandings, the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) held a “Get Together” gathering on Sunday for its Central Executive Committee (CEC) team and ICR unit at the Galo Heritage Centre cum Mopin Ground in Tarajuli, Naharlagun. The event, which took place from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, aimed to bridge divisions within the organization and foster a spirit of cooperation in anticipation of GWS’s upcoming Silver Jubilee Celebration.

This gathering was organized in response to a series of internal disagreements that arose from miscommunications between GWS authorities and members of the Women’s Wing within the CEC.

Tensions escalated, culminating in the resignations of both the General Secretary and the Convenor during a meeting held on October 8, 2024.

Acknowledging the urgent need for stability, the GWS leadership convened an emergency meeting on October 10 in Itanagar, where they collectively decided to reject the resignations. This resolution underscored the leadership’s commitment to preserving organizational harmony and emphasized the importance of open dialogue and mutual understanding.

The program commenced with the singing of the Galo Anthem, a powerful symbol of shared identity and pride that set a respectful tone for the evening. GWS Vice President (East), Er Kendo Zirdo, formally welcomed attendees and outlined the objectives of the gathering, highlighting the essential role of reconciliation in strengthening the organization. Zirdo’s address acknowledged the recent challenges and stressed that such gatherings are crucial for resolving misunderstandings and restoring unity within GWS.

Following Zirdo’s remarks, Ms. Bai Bam, President of the GWS Women’s Wing (ICR unit), addressed the attendees, discussing the importance of fostering a collaborative spirit within the organization. She expressed her gratitude for GWS’s inclusive approach and emphasized the necessity of maintaining positive relationships among all office bearers. Ms. Bam assured attendees of the Women’s Wing’s unwavering support for GWS initiatives, particularly concerning the upcoming Silver Jubilee Celebration, which she described as a landmark event for the organization.

Subsequently, GWS General Secretary Sri Nyadar Loya provided insights into recent organizational developments, including the GWS Lucky Draw. Loya took the opportunity to clarify details surrounding the Lucky Draw and address various concerns raised by members, aiming to eliminate any lingering doubts and promote transparency.

The event concluded with closing remarks from GWS President Shri Marnya Ete, who expressed appreciation for the commitment shown by all members during this critical period. Ete emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within GWS, encouraging members to continue working together toward shared goals.

He highlighted the significance of the upcoming Silver Jubilee Celebration as an opportunity to reflect on the society’s achievements and renew their collective dedication to the community.The “Get Together” served as a vital platform for members to reconnect, reinforce their commitment to GWS, and work collaboratively toward a brighter future for the organization and the Galo community.
